On June 9th 2026, Chinese Embassy in Kenya, Unicef Kenya, Ministry of Health in Kenya successfully launched Project “Promotion of Health and Well-being of Women and Children in Kenya”. Supported by China Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF), the project aims to provide technical, material assistance as well as capacity-building support to improve maternal and newborn health services in Northeast Kenya.
Dr. Shaheen Nilofer, Representative of UNICEF Kenya noted that China has been a valued partner over the years supporting programmes across Africa including Kenya. Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director General Ministry of Health noted that this project aligns with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage Agenda. Ambassador Guo Haiyan noted in her speech that the launch of this project is a vivid example of the China’s commitment to the implementation of Global Development Initiative (GDI). The year of 2026 marks the fifth anniversary of the GDI. Over the past five years, GDI has mobilized more than 23 billion US dollars in development funds. China will continue to work with developing countries and implement South-South Cooperation.
